DNS & Domain Setup

What is an A record, and how do I set it up so it points to 301joy?

An A record links your domain name to a specific IP address (in this case, 301joy's). You'll log into your domain's DNS settings, find where A records are listed, and add our IP address so your domain routes through our servers.

Do I really need a TXT record, and how do I add it to my DNS?

The TXT record is our handshake. It contains your unique verification code, so we can confirm you're the domain owner. To add it, head to your DNS settings and create a new TXT record with the string of text we provide. That's pretty much it—once saved, we'll pick it up on our end.

Why do I need to verify ownership of my domain in the first place?

We want to be sure you have the right to manage redirects for the domain you're adding. By verifying ownership, you're telling us “hey, I really do control this domain,” which is crucial for keeping everyone's domains secure and in the right hands.

What happens if I forget to add or remove one of these DNS records?

If something is off—like the A record points elsewhere or the TXT record isn't present—we won't be able to confirm ownership or successfully route your domain. You'll likely see errors, or your domain might not redirect at all. Double-check your DNS settings if you're running into trouble.

What happens behind the scenes once my domain is verified?

As soon as we see your domain is verified, we set up a secure connection (SSL) and ensure all traffic routes through our platform. That means anyone visiting your domain is whisked off to the URL you specified—quickly, securely, and automatically.

Can I use other DNS providers or do I have to use a specific one?

Use whichever DNS provider you like (we recommend DNSimple). Some dashboards are friendlier than others, but it doesn't matter to us as long as you can create an A record, a TXT record, and so on. It's your call!

What about SSL certificates for HTTPS traffic?

We partner with Let's Encrypt for SSL certificates. As soon as your domain is verified, we generate and renew your SSL automatically. You don't have to lift a finger—no manual provisioning, no copy-pasting certificate keys. We just make it happen in the background.

Billing & Subscriptions

What's included with each plan, and how do I switch from one plan to another?

Each plan comes with a certain number of monthly requests and custom redirects. If you ever need more headroom, you can jump to a higher plan. We also offer annual billing at a discount. Switching plans is a breeze—just log in, go to Billing, choose Change Plan, and pick a new one. We'll handle the rest.

What happens if I change plans in the middle of a billing cycle?

If you switch from one plan to another before your billing cycle is up, we'll prorate the difference between your old and new plan. The prorated amount (or credit for downgrades) will be added to your next invoice. It all happens automatically, so there's not much you need to do except enjoy your upgraded (or downgraded) plan.

How do I update my payment information or billing details?

Just log in, click on Billing, and you'll see all your payment and invoice details. You can update your card information, billing address, or anything else you need. Make sure to save your changes so we can keep your account in good standing.

How do I cancel my subscription?

It's easy! To cancel your subscription, log in and go to Billing. Click on Cancel Subscription. We hate to see you go, but we understand sometimes you just need to. If there's anything we can do to keep you on board, let us know!

If I cancel my subscription, what happens and when does it actually end?

Canceling stops future renewals, but your current subscription stays active until the end of your billing cycle. That means if you're halfway through the billing cycle, you'll still get service until the billing cycle ends—after that, your redirects and SSL will stop working.

Will my SSL certificate remain valid if I cancel my subscription?

Once your subscription ends, we have to pull the plug on your redirect and the associated SSL certificate. If you come back, we'll happily generate a fresh certificate for you—but until then, it won't stay active.

Troubleshooting

Why are my redirects not working, and how do I troubleshoot DNS issues?

Nine times out of ten, a missing or incorrect DNS record is the culprit. Double-check that your A record is pointed to 301joy and that your TXT record is still in place. Make sure the changes have propagated—it can take a few hours for DNS updates to go live. If you're stuck, drop us a note at support@301joy.com.

Is there anything else I need to do after setting up my domain on 301joy?

Once you've pointed your DNS and added the TXT record, just sit back and relax. Our system will take care of the rest—generating SSL, setting up the redirect, and keeping everything in sync. If you do run into any issues or just have a question, let us know!
